A plateau top hideaway on the eastern edge of Kenya’s Great Rift Valley just one hour’s drive south west of Nairobi centre… a mini lodge for the exclusive use of your personal party… privacy that is normally beyond one’s reach. Situated on the edge of a ridge between two beautiful gorges on an 80-acre private estate, the view from L’Ol Dacha stretches across Africa’s Great Rift Valley. On a clear day you can see for hundreds of miles into Tanzania to the south and over to the distant Nguruman escarpment to the west, with massive Olorsgesaille nearly dwarfed by the expanse of the backdrop.

Explore a variety of scenic walking tours, either gentle circular tours on the plateau or, for those more adventurous, down to the floor of the gorge on the east or west. On the plateau walks you will find a multitude of different species of natural indigenous flora. The more adventurous walks down to the normally dry riverbeds pass caves still in use by the local Maasai on ceremonial occasions. Be sure to bring proper walking shoes.

What To Do

Simply relax and enjoy the distant vistas while sipping cool drinks by the pool, lounging in a hammock, or resting under the trees, binoculars always at hand to check out the birds and animals nearby. Colourful resident birds (woodpeckers, sunbirds, weaverbirds, starlings) feed just a few feet from the veranda. Game is shy, but most days one will see the resident Chandler’s reedbuck, and often, klipspringer, eland, baboon and the very occasional leopard, buffalo and aardvark. Why not arrange one’s day to include a bit of both?

Accommodation

The buildings are constructed from stones and boulders dug from the surrounding land and are built into the hillside to blend in with the natural environment.

There is a general purpose day room with split level dining room and kitchen attached. There are three self-contained double units with cold water washrooms, and a ‘log cabin’-cum-general-purpose evening room with a further double unit attached.
Two solar heated showers (one is outdoors) offer very hot water. The outdoor shower with sundeck for drying must boast one of the most scenic views in the world (as does the long drop).

There is a little ‘grass-house’ offering two extra beds when necessary.
