Mike’s Camp – Lamu Hotels
Mike’s Camp is located on Kiwayu Island, one of the many unspoilt, idyllic islands of the Lamu Archipelago, on the Kenya Coast.
You are offered your own private island where you are safe and undisturbed. Surrounded by miles of soft white sand, turquoise waters and gorgeous coral gardens, it offers one of the only beaches in Kenya on which you can walk for miles without seeing a single soul.
We are an Eco Camp where water is brought by donkey and power comes from the wind and the sun. The seven private and spacious bandas are set amongst the sand dunes, with panoramic views. Make of locally weaved palms, they blend harmoniously into the environment. The living areas are simply decorated with local art crafted from recycled colourful flip flops.
You can be as relaxed or active as you like. Mike’s Camp offers tranquillity, water sports, safaris and fishing in a uniquely homely environment. Without any pretensions you can listen to the birds, swim with the fishes and marvel at the beauty of nature… or play your music as loud as your want!
Accommodation
here are 7 comfortable and spacious bandas (rooms) on top of the sand dunes under the tortilis trees. All have magnificent panoramic views of the mangrove creek, or Indian Ocean and are set in total privacy from each other.
Listen to the bird calls from your hammock, watch the monkeys from the day beds on your porch, or marvel at the star studded sky, whiles safely snuggled up behind your mosquito net in your king sized bed.
Made by the villagers weaving matting from palms, the bandas blend harmoniously into the environment. They all come with towels, toiletries, mosquito nets, ensuite bathrooms with hand painted bucket shower and flushing toilets, and a daily laundry service.
Your shower water comes by donkey from the well and is heated by the sun. Once all lit by oil lamps, all the rooms now have electricity and mobile phone reception, forthose who like to keep in touch with the outside world.
Each room is unique and has its own character. The incredibly romantic setting makes it ideal for honeymooners. The rooms are all very spacious, extra bed can be added to accommodate families and friends. Mikes Camp is also a fantastic place to hire exclusively for a totally memorable holiday.
Food:
Overlooking the magnificent mangrove creek the sunset bar is the perfect place for unwinding over an ice cold Tusker beer or fresh fruit cocktail.
Famous for its plentiful and delicious crab, the menu is a feast of fresh fish, salads and vegetables.
Eat together under the stars, and lean about the mysteries of our planet from our remarkable Mike, or choose to have a quiet romantic candle lit meal by yourself…… It is totally up to you.
