Location: Coast Province, Kwale District. 550 km from Nairobi and 120 km south-west of Mombasa near the Tanzanian border.

Accommodation: Set within the Coastal forest, there are 7 simple one bedroom bandas each with 2 single beds.

  • Bathrooms: Three of the bandas have ensuite bathroom facilities; the others share communal washing facilities with shower and WC.
  • Sitting room: The bandas do not have sitting rooms.
  • Dining area: The bandas share a communal dining area.
  • Kitchen: The bandas (on request) can be provided with cooking stoves, kitchen utensils, cutlery, crockery and glasses. Alternatively guests may use the communal kitchen and dining area equipped with tables and chairs, cooking facilities, kitchen utensils, cutlery, crockery and glasses.
  • Provided: Caretaker, electricity, blankets, pillows, bed linen, mosquito nets and towels.

Park highlights: An area of pristine coral reefs, lagoons and white sandy beaches, this Park offers some of the finest snorkelling in Kenya.

Activities: Boat trips, walking, swimming, sailing, snorkelling and diving. The bandas are also 5 minutes walk from the Shimoni slave caves.

How to get there: The bandas are within the compound of the KWS   Park and Reserve HQ, located 200 meters south of the main Shimoni Pier. The Marine   Park/ Reserve can only be reached by boat (details of all operators can be obtained from the warden).

Open: Daily 8.30 a.m. – 6.00 p.m. including public holidays.

‘SafariCard’ required?  At present this Park/Reserve does not operate the SafariCard system and entry is by cash only (Ksh or US$).
