Wimbi Reef House, Msambweni

In the early 1980s, a few exclusive beach houses were built at Msambweni on Kenya’s beautiful South Coast, just fifty kilometers from Mombasa. Older Kenyans compared Msambweni to the fabulous Diani Beach in the 1950’s; natural and unspoiled. Few expected its ambiance to remain for long, let alone to the end of the 20th century, but Msambweni’s old fashioned charms have not changed. The beach remains unspoiled, and Msambweni continues as it always has, a small sleepy government administrative centre and a group of Wadigo villages subsisting on fishing and agriculture. Just the place to relax on the deserted palm fringed beaches away from the hustle and hassle of modern life.
Accommodation & Room Types

Wimbi Reefs is a simple but idyllic 9 bed beach house situated on a six acre beach front plot within a grove of coconut palms on a 4 kilometre stretch of a dazzling white coral strand. The accommodation in the house consists of three double bedrooms, one triple bedroom, three bathrooms, a covered verandah, dining area, drawing room and tree shaded terrace. There is also a secluded cliff top swimming pool and pool house. Guests are well looked after by our six resident staff, who ensure that you are comfortable and well fed. Msambweni is perfect for all beach and ocean activities; from snorkelling to watersports. The local fisherman will be more than happy to ferry you out to the reef or escort you on a fishing trip in a tradition dugout canoe. For the more adventurous, day trips to Shimoni and Kisite Marine Park, only 30 kilometers away, can be arranged locally and is recommended for those who wish to dive and for seasoned snorkelers. Keen fishermen can also rent a deep sea fishing boat from Shimoni, complete with an expert crew, from where you can fish some of the best waters the world has to offer. For those who wish to explore the coastal inland and see some of the wildlife that the coast provinces have to offer, a day trip to the Shimba Hills and Mwalugangi Elephant Sanctuary is easy to undertake.
While Msambweni itself has a relaxed village atmosphere, Diani Beach, which is an easy 30 minute drive away, is a hive of activity and perfect for those wishing to go shopping or visit a restaurant, bar or club. The seclusion of Wimbi Reefs means that it is ideal for a family get away or for a relaxed or romantic break. However, for those wishing to take more active advantage of all the Kenyan coast has to offer, this seclusion is tempered by its proximity to Diani Beach and Shimoni.

Dining

The house comes with it’s own cook and staff who have a array of seafood recipes. Fresh sea food can be purchased off the beach at a reasonable price, as can fruit, vegetables and eggs. Other foods, drinks and beach necessities need to be purchased in Diani.
